Gen 1 or Gen 2? Check your RPO code. This listing covers Gen 2 transmissions — RPO M7W, M7U, MHM, M7V. If your transmission RPO is MH2, MH4, MH6, or MY9, you have a Gen 1 and you need our T43 TEHCM listing instead. The RPO is on the SPID label in the glovebox or driver's door jamb. Send us your VIN if you can't find it — we'll tell you which one you have before you order.
Gen 2 units are generally 2013 and newer. Several models ran both generations across the changeover, so the RPO — not the model year — is what decides it.
Before you buy — read this. The TEHCM is not an external box. It mounts inside the transmission on the valve body. Replacing it means dropping the pan and fluid. Budget for Dexron VI, a valve body cover gasket (GM 24229593 on 6T70/6T75), and a pan gasket, and plan on a transmission adaptive relearn (Service Fast Learn) with a capable scan tool after install.
Symptoms of a failed TEHCM:
Harsh, delayed, or flared shifts
Stuck in limp / failsafe, no upshift past 3rd
No torque converter lockup
Wrong gear ratio and solenoid performance codes — P0716, P0717, P0722, P0751, P0776, P0796, P0842, P0847, P0871, P0973, P0974, P2714, P2723, P2729
U0101 lost communication with TCM
Speedometer or gear display dropping out
