How We Tune

Most tuning shops focus on peak horsepower numbers. We focus on how the vehicle drives. A proper tune transforms the entire experience — idle quality, throttle response, shift behavior, cruise, towing. You should feel the difference every time you drive, not just when you're at wide-open throttle on a dyno.

Every tune is custom-calibrated to your specific vehicle, modifications, and driving needs. We don't use canned files or one-size-fits-all templates. We review your setup, build the calibration from scratch, and refine it based on your data logs until it's dialed.

What you get: a vehicle that idles clean, shifts smooth, responds instantly on part-throttle, cruises quietly, tows without lugging, and makes full power when you ask for it.

Custom Engine Tuning

Full calibration work across the entire operating range — not just a WOT fueling pass. Every tune addresses the areas that matter most for daily driving and real-world performance.

Fuel Calibration

VE table and MAF calibration built to your injectors, intake, cam, and headers. Closed-loop and open-loop fuel targets optimized for your setup.

Spark & Timing

Spark advance tables calibrated per-cylinder if needed. Knock sensor tuning, spark vs. load curves, and fuel-quality-specific timing (87, 91/93, E30, E85).

Torque Management

Torque reduction tables adjusted to eliminate unnecessary throttle blade closure and spark retard during shifts — cleaner, faster shifts without the jarring cutback.

Idle & Part-Throttle

Idle airflow, idle spark, and throttle follower tables tuned for a stable, smooth idle — even with aggressive cams. Part-throttle response shaped for your driving style.

Cooling & Fan Control

Fan activation temperatures, AC fan staging, and coolant strategy adjusted for your climate and cooling setup. Keeps temps in check without running fans unnecessarily.

Speed Limiter & Rev Limiter

Top speed limiter removed or raised. Rev limiter adjusted to match your cam profile and valvetrain. Tire-size-based speedo correction included.

Additional Engine Calibration Options

Flex Fuel Enable — Enable E85 or flex fuel capability on supported platforms. Fuel, spark, and injector scaling calibrated for ethanol blends from E0 to E85.

AFM / DOD Disable — Disable Active Fuel Management / Displacement on Demand to eliminate lifter tick, oil consumption, and the rough V4/V8 transition. Full-time V8 operation with recalibrated fuel economy tables.

VVT Calibration — Variable Valve Timing cam phaser tables tuned for your cam profile. Critical for aftermarket cam swaps on VVT-equipped engines.

MAF Sensor Rescale — Recalibrate the MAF transfer function for aftermarket intakes, larger MAF housings, or LS swap MAF conversions.

Injector Scaling — Flow rate, offset, and short pulse width tables updated for aftermarket injectors. Proper scaling is the foundation of accurate fueling.

Transmission Tuning

Transmission calibration is where most tunes fall short. Factory shift logic is tuned for emissions compliance and NVH targets — not for how you actually drive. We recalibrate shift timing, line pressure, torque converter clutch (TCC) strategy, and converter slip targets to match your powertrain and driving conditions.

Shift Point Calibration

Shift schedule tables reprogrammed for your gear ratio, tire size, and power output. Upshift and downshift points tuned to keep the engine in the powerband where it belongs.

Line Pressure

Increased line pressure for firmer, more positive shifts. Critical for high-torque applications. Calibrated per-gear to balance firmness and longevity.

TCC Lockup Strategy

Torque converter clutch lockup and unlock points adjusted for your gear ratio and tire size. Eliminates lugging on light throttle and improves fuel economy at cruise.

Converter Slip Management

Slip targets calibrated to your torque converter — stock or aftermarket. Proper slip management means smoother TCC engagement and less heat buildup.

Swap & Conversion Tuning

Engine and transmission swaps need more than just a performance tune — they need the calibration rebuilt to match the new combination. We handle all the integration work that makes a swap actually drivable.

Axle Ratio & Tire Size Correction — Speedometer, shift points, TCC lockup, and torque management recalibrated for your actual gear ratio and tire diameter.

Transmission Swap Support — 4L60E to 4L80E, 4L80E to 6L80, manual-to-auto, and other common swap combinations. Includes shift logic, line pressure, and TCC calibration for the new trans.

Security System Delete — VATS, Passlock, and SKIM delete for swap builds where the original security system is no longer present or compatible.

PCM Swap & OS Migration — Running a different PCM than the vehicle came with? We handle OS compatibility, VIN programming, and recalibration for the new controller.

MAF / Speed Sensor Conversion — Scaling for different MAF sensors, VSS sources, or signal conversions required by your swap.

0411 PCM Swap (Gen II LT1/LT4) — Replace the factory OptiSpark-era PCM with a P01 0411 controller for full LS-style tuning capability. Includes calibration, VIN programming, and security delete. Turns an otherwise limited OBD-I platform into a fully tunable setup.

Read Your PCM & Send the File

Using HP Tuners VCM Suite, read your PCM's current calibration and email us the file. If you don't have HP Tuners, we also offer Buy-A-ECM options where we ship you a pre-programmed module.

We Build Your Tune

We build the calibration for your specific combination — not a canned file, not a template. Every table is set for your hardware.

Flash, Log, Revise

You flash the tune, drive it, and send us data logs. We review the logs and send revisions. This cycle repeats until the tune is dialed — idle, part-throttle, cruise, WOT, and transmission all verified.

Done — Drive It

Once the logs are clean and you're happy with how it drives, the tune is finalized. If anything changes down the road (new mods, different fuel), we can revise.

What you need: HP Tuners VCM Suite with available credits, or purchase one of our Buy-A-ECM / mail-in options if you don't have tuning hardware.
