Permanent AFM / DOD Delete + VVT Delete — Custom ECM Tune
Software-level Active Fuel Management (AFM) delete — also called Displacement on Demand (DOD) delete — for 2006–2026 GM Gen IV and Gen V (EcoTec3) V6 and V8 engines: 4.3L, 5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L. On 2019+ trucks and SUVs this covers Dynamic Fuel Management (DFM) delete as well. On applicable engines we also disable Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and remove factory throttle lag — no check engine light, no codes.
Unlike a plug-in Range AFM Disabler ($236.95+ that has to stay plugged in forever), this is a permanent custom tune written directly to your ECM — one time, done. No dongles, no OBD2 plug-ins, no battery drain.
Why Delete AFM/DOD/DFM?
AFM/DFM is the #1 cause of collapsed lifters, lifter tick, and camshaft failure on GM 5.3 and 6.2 engines. Deleting it in the tune:
Locks the engine in full-cylinder (V8) mode — no 4-cylinder AFM or 17-pattern DFM deactivation
Eliminates AFM/DFM lifter failure risk on the software side
Stops torque converter shudder and constant lockup cycling from cylinder deactivation
Fixes AFM oil consumption complaints on Gen IV 5.3s
Removes throttle lag for sharper pedal response
Smooths part-throttle drivability and towing behavior
Note: The tune disables cylinder deactivation. If your engine already has a failing AFM/DFM lifter (audible tick/misfire), it needs mechanical repair — a tune can't fix damaged hardware. This tune is the right move on healthy engines and mandatory after an AFM/DFM delete kit or cam swap install.
Supported Vehicles
2006–2018 (Trucks & SUVs): Chevy Silverado 1500/2500, GMC Sierra 1500/2500, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali, Avalanche, Cadillac Escalade, Trailblazer, Envoy, Rainier, Saab 9-7x 2006–2018 (Cars): Camaro SS (L99 auto & LT1), Corvette LT1, Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, Pontiac G8 GT, Grand Prix GXP, Buick LaCrosse Super, Caprice PPV 2019–2026 (DFM platforms): Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Escalade/ESV, Camaro SS
Engines: 4.3 LV3 EcoTec3 • 5.3 LC9/LMG/LY5/LH6/LS4/L83/L82/L84 • 6.0 L76/L77/LY6/L96 • 6.2 L9H/L94/L99/L86/L87/LT1
Not sure if your engine has AFM/DFM or VVT? Send your VIN — we'll confirm before you ship anything.
Important: 2019+ Vehicles Require an ECM Unlock
2019 and newer GM trucks and SUVs use a locked ECM (Global A E90/E92 and Global B E01/E66/E90). Before any tune can be written, these ECMs must be unlocked through HP Tuners' official unlock service — a per-ECM cost billed in addition to the tuning service.
We pass the unlock cost through at HP Tuners' published rate; it is quoted per vehicle before work begins.
2025–2026 and some 2022.5+ Global B models are RTD-only (Remote Tuning Device — tuned in-vehicle, not on the bench). If your vehicle falls in this group, message us first so we can confirm the correct process before you ship anything.
2006–2018 vehicles do not require an unlock — those are covered at the standard service price below.
How the Mail-In Service Works
Order the service and ship us your ECM/PCM (or purchase a pre-programmed exchange ECM — $100 core deposit, refunded on core return)
We write the AFM/DOD/DFM delete + VVT delete calibration with HP Tuners professional software
ECM ships back, plug in and drive — fast nationwide turnaround
Pricing
2006–2016 vehicles: $125
2017–2018 vehicles: $225 (later-generation E92 ECM requires additional licensing)
2019–2026 vehicles: quoted per vehicle — includes DFM delete tuning plus the required HP Tuners ECM unlock (see link above)
